In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness,
but the darkness has not understood it.

A new year -- a new beginning.

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the beginning of the new year,
and our eyes behold the light of the world,
we sing thy praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Thou art worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified though all the worlds.
