Still Recovering
Starting to feel "trapped" by the house. I want to get out, but I don't have lots of energy. I missed my appointment this morning. The appointment card said "Wednesday, May 19th." I thought it was for tomorrow. The scheduling nurse put down the wrong day of the week -- Honest mistake on both our parts. So I'll go in on Thursday for my followup.
I've been working on collecting my ideas for my log cabin project as well as the Portable Parsonage Project (a park model trailer). I wonder sometimes why I spend so much energy doing "pie in the sky by and by" things instead of working in the moment -- so I also have been working on getting my laundry room re-organized (kid labor) and re-designed. It's coming along OK; I actually spray painted my peach baskets red this afternoon and worked a bit on the deck (it's the next project.)
I do like spray paint.
Sugar kitty and I have been bonding. She's almost 6 months old and still very much a kitten. But she sure doesn't look like a kitten! She's about 7 to 8 pounds and her paws are huge. She's still very scared of everything and very needy. Here's some pictures.

What do you mean I have big paws, hooman?

Sugar on the bed -- I am the lump in the bed...

Big eyes. Big paws.
Well, I haven't even looked up the text for the week, much less had deep and insightful comments to make on the text... so until later.
Next time: Princess the Prissy.

Last Things
Today is my childrens' last day in public school (for the time being.) So this is my last morning for a while completely alone, except for the romping cats. I am going to enjoy this cup of coffee (Saint's Coffee, Free Trade, Organic and the sale supports orphans at the rate of one month a food per pound of coffee sold).
I have most things in place; ordered textbooks, lesson planning is occurring, educational contract is being written. The decision was not lightly made or easily made, but now there is a tremendous feeling of relief mixed with a small bit of anxiety. I had not realized until I made this decision how I really dislike our public schools. The anxiety comes from them leaving an excellent orchestra program and not having a replacement fully nailed down yet. They are anxious about leaving behind friends -- an anxiety I can fully understand. I have already been in full contact with one homeschool network and looking forward to meeting people in the second homeschool network.
I also have already written my first curriculum. For literature, we are going to read 4 of Shakespeare's plays, starting with one of my favorites "As You Like It." We are going to read aloud to one another every day (diction, vocabulary, poetry). I am going to have Entropy copy a few "lines" every day (handwriting, memorization). The are going to analyze each Act, imagine the staging, costuming. By the end I hope each have created a derivative work of their own choosing. I am also going to encourage them to memorize and stage a scene. We then will watch a couple of movies and go see the play at the Georgia Shakespeare Festival. At the end of the first month, I will re-evaluate, to see if it's really worth it.
So I am going to go an enjoy this last cup of coffee in a completely empty house -- later, y'all.

Running so very far behind
I am running so very far behind. I don't have a tree yet. The lights aren't up. No food has been purchased. I'm still cleaning house.
The girls and I watched "Girl TV" yesterday -- specifically, Chaos' third birthday party. The kids were amazed at how little they were -- I was amazed at how clean the house was. How on earth did this house get so very ... messy? We have indeed inherited a couple of households of stuff -- but REALLY! My year (or year and a half) of stuff reduction has helped, but the process isn't over yet. The girls' rooms will look amazing by the end of the month (JC Penney is still shipping various things) and my room will be almost complete, but the sewing room is HORRIBLE. The living areas are a total wreck right now.
I am about a month behind of where I wanted to be, so here's some pics from Thanksgiving:
I call these "Inept Southerners Trying To Have A Snowball Fight"

This is Aunt Susie's cat -- isn't she beautiful?

This is Aunt Susie's bunny -- I call this one "I can haz bunni plse?"

This is a log cabin in Fairmont, WV. I like the buttercream colored chinking. It has been continually occupied for more than 200 years. For my cabin, I think I would prefer less chinking.

Small, Medium and Large. I have small under my chin right now. She's a real love-muffin.

My card/invitations came this morning. All addressed, now I need stamps. Very last minute, eh?

Link Love -- Oogy the Dog -- I cried.
I received this link in email this afternoon. This is a truly inspirational story. First, the fact that as their beloved cat Buzzy lay dying, they found love again in a very ugly and needy dog -- that is grace.
And the final line --
'I realized then that Oogy probably did not know he had not died and gone to heaven. So I told him. I said, "Listen pal. It only gets better after this."'
What a word of encouragement -- how that speaks of what I believe of the Kingdom. It is already and not yet. May we bring about the Kingdom just a little more this Christmas.

Critterbit

Critter got out this morning -- she followed Johnny who (against my wishes) LOVES to go outside. Well, I think she's still too little.
Panic followed -- by both myself and Critterbit. She came to the front door just a few minutes ago, all fluffed up and wanting in desperately. She's now under my chin and won't leave. She's also drooling and rooting around under my ear, looking for something to nurse on. Nothing there, cat, sorry.

Grateful for #26:
12 hours in a car with two kids and a kitten.
=o)
And house sitter who will clean up after the old lady cat. For this I am truly grateful.

Monday Bullets

Little Bit (or Critter) is the Purrfect Laptop.
- Little Bit is settling in quite nicely. The big kitties are getting used to the idea of the micro-cat. She loves to perch on my shoulder -- like a parrot. It's kind of sweet but it's also kind of annoying. She's still very little -- about a pound and a half, but she's growing. Her eyes have lost all signs of blue and I think she's going to have gold eyes. I am totally in love with her.
- And yes, she gets to go to West Virginia with us. The house-sitter doesn't want the responsibility of a kitten and the vet won't board one this young. She doesn't seem to mind the car so we will put a covered litter box in the back along with her food and water, put her bed in the back seat and carry her around in the cat-carrier. I suppose we will have free range cat while we are in motion on the freeway. Should be an adventure.
- We are getting ready for the marathon to Christmas. Advent is week after next -- I want all my ducks in a row before Thanksgiving so that I don't have to stop and deal with, well, stuff.
- I want to do some baking/cooking this Christmas and I would love to have an after Christmas party. Cleaning the house is the first step, so I'm cleaning house -- literally and figuratively.
- Odd thing yesterday -- I saw your typical Suburban Gansta' -- lowriding Honda with low profile tires, sagging pants with lots of chains, a "grill" and ballcap turned sideways, listening to booming music. EXCEPT the music was Nickel Creek Newgrass. My brain almost exploded.
